Our page will be full of all the exciting adventures your child experiences in their first year of school.
Remember to check your child's Tapestry Learning Journey page to keep up to date with their progress. We encourage you to also upload experiences and milestones they achieve at home. We look forward to celebrating their successes.
We have been lucky over the past few weeks to have a PE teacher from Sir John Hunt come into school to teach our classes. They have been practicing lots of skills such as balancing, travelling, kicking, jumping, throwing and catching. All the children listened well to the instructions and played the games well.
Sue our school cook put on a taster session this week. She made samples of the most popular dishes for the children and the parents to try. Everyone came back for seconds and even thirds! Some children had never tried these dishes before in school and were suprised by how much they enjoyed them. Thank you Sue for your hard work.
Reception 2016 - 2017
We practise our writing everyday in Read Write Inc and during our choosing time. We are trying really hard to form our sounds correctly. Sometimes we use formation sheets to help us remember where to start each sound. As well as learning to write simple words, we are also focusing on learning how to spell our names.
You can support your child's writing development by encouraging them to find and copy the sounds in their name. Also by allowing them to explore writing is different ways such as, copying your shopping lists or writing birthday cards.
Summer 1 - We have all worked really hard at practising our writing. We can write are names and short sentences. In Reception we practise our writing writing everywhere - in paint, on whiteboards and with chalk!
In Foundation we investigate mathematics in all areas of our classroom, using lots of different objects to help represent numbers, colours and patterns. This term we have been learning to count, recognise and order numbers up to 20. We have also explored different shapes in our environment and how to make repeating patterns.
You can support your child's mathematical development by regularly counting objects and recognising numbers when you are out and about.
Summer 1 - This term we are focusing on securing our knowledge of numbers to 20 and challenging ourselves to find one more or less than a number. We are also beginning to complete simple calculations. In Reception we absolutely love NumberBlocks. It is helping us to understand how different numbers are made.
We are exploring technology by using the iPads to navigate different games; through this we are developing knowledge and skills that cover the whole of our curriculum.
Summer 1 - We are now able to find our own games to play on the iPads and use the camera to take pictures. We are continuing to work hard to follow the instructions on the Pads.
We have used our outdoor area to continue our learning during free play. This has included lots of different activities such as writing, counting and building models. We cover all aspects of our curriculum in the outdoor area.
Summer 1 - This term we are exploring the world around us. This includes making homes for mini beasts, splashing in muddy puddles, seeing if hail stones melt and watching tadpoles complete their life cycle.
We are very proud of the hard work that all the children put into our assembly. They all learnt their lines and the songs that we performed. Well Done Woodpecker and Kestrel!
The children thoroughly enjoyed learning how to ride bikes. They started the week working on balancing and improving their coordination by playing lots of different games. By the end of the week all the children started to use the pedal on the bike with some support. We are all very proud of how well they listened to the instructors. Well Done Woodpecker and Kestrel.
We had a visit from Donna the Dental Nurse. She told the story of Geoffrey the Giant who had toothache. We thought about foods that are good for teeth and how often we need to brush our teeth. Donna showed us how to brush our teeth so they stay nice and strong!
We had a visit from the Life Caravan. We talk all about our bodies and 'the five things' our bodies need - food, water, oxygen, exercise and sleep. We learnt about the different things inside our bodies and what we need to do to stay healthy.
