INDOOR ROWING - YEAR 6
On Wednesday 25th January 2017, eight Year 6 pupils attended the Plymouth Indoor Rowing Championships at Plymstock School. Brooke, Bonnie, Denver, Alfie, Harry, Skyla, Hollie and Joshua took part in individual two minute distances races and boy/girl team races. They all did an amazing job of representing Beechwood. They were involved in some exciting races with neck and neck finishes!
They narrowly missed a medal position but made the other teams work extremely hard for their victories. In the overall standings for the day, Beechwood bested half of the other teams in the races. Well done Beechwood rowers!
Beechwood’s footballers had an eventful day at GOALs when they took part in the EFL Community Cup. Competing in a tough group, Beechwood were up against Montpellier, Manadon Vale, Pomphlett and Compton. Three defeats were eventually followed by a well deserved and amazing 5-4 victory over Pomphlett, with 3 goals from Aiden and 2 from T-Jay. Unfortunately, this great victory was not enough to ensure progress to the semi-finals. Well done for your efforts. Mr Mitchell

Bronze Ambassador Conference @ Plymouth Life Centre – (12/10/16)
Jayden, Bradley, Alfie and Josh, from Years 5 and 6 at Beechwood attended a Sports Leaders Conference at the Life Centre. The afternoon began with an inspirational talk from Olympic Hockey Gold Medalist Giselle Ansley, who then joined us for a photo and signed some autographs. Beechwood then joined up with children from other schools and took part in 2 workshops. First they took part in activities looking at the attributes and skills required to become a Sports Leader. Next they had the opportunity to plan and lead a sports activity with a small group. Our Sports Leaders can now bring these skills back to school and hopefully organise their own sporting activities.

BOCCIA FESTIVAL (11/12/15)
For the first time Oakwood and Beechwood sent teams to compete in an inclusive Boccia festival at Tor Bridge High. Teams of three sit and roll soft balls towards a target ball, similar to bowls. Both schools won many matches and really enjoyed the event.
Friday 11th December 2015 – Another fantastic afternoon of Boccia at Tor Bridge High. 9 teams from Primary schools all over Plymouth came along to take part in our relaxed and friendly competition. It was great to see a few of our regular attendees back again as well as some new teams with some children that had never played before. The young leaders from Tor Bridge High did an incredible job of teaching them how to play and then running all of the games. Congratulations to St. Andrews, Oakwood, Beechwood, Keyham Barton, Dunstone, Leigham and Cann Bridge (who were sporting some very festive jumpers) who all came along today and took part. I hope you all had a great time and I look forward to seeing you all at our next one in the new year. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers for bringing your teams along and a huge thank you to the leaders from Tor Bridge High – I couldn’t do it without your support.
