Science

We have been learning all about plants this term and have conducted and experiment to find out which environment our sunflowers will thrive in. The variables are: sand, compost, rich soil and gravel. We have made our own predictions. The results will be published soon!

Art and design.

We have been busy artists this week and have used watercolours with wax resist to create some beautiful pictures of woodlands.

Carnival

Our topic this term has been all about Rio. We enjoyed our carnival day and took part in activities such as:

preparing party food, making samba movements and music, creating carnival masks and parading around the school grounds.

Mathematics

We have been reading different scales and using different units of measurement.

Literacy

We have been reading fairy tales, looking at the features of this genre and are creating our own version of Rumplestiltskin.

Literacy

This term we are learning how to write diary entries with a focus on past and present tense.

Topic

The topic this term is space. We have been learning about the solar system and naming and ordering the planets.

In maths this term we have been learning to count in 2's, 5's and 10's and learning 'friends' of 10.

Fluency Fun

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended the fluency fun session. I hope you found this useful. A twilight session on the 11th February will be running for parents who were not able to attend. Please return the reply slips if you wish to attend.

Spellings

Each week your child will be given a list of spellings to learn.  We are focussing on spelling patterns including digraphs, split digraphs and trigraphs.  Spellings will be handed out every Friday and tested the following Friday.

The spellings for this week are on the link below (your child will have received a paper copy too!)

Please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher if you have any questions.

Doubles

This week in Mathematics we have been finding doubles.

1 + 1=2  Double 1 is 2.

2 + 2 = 4   Double 2 is 4.

3 + 3 = 6   Double 3 is 6.

4 + 4 = 8   Double 4 is 8.

5 + 5 = 10   Double 5 is 10.

Please help your child to learn these by heart as it will help with all aspects of Maths.
