Empty Classroom Day!
The weather was kind for our fun-filled day of: bike and scooter riding, outdoor maths, pizza making, cob decorating, story telling, scavenger hunting and learning about our very special visitors.
We have been using positional language and time telling.
Please follow the link for some useful resources to support home learning.
We have been learning all about plants this term and have conducted and experiment to find out which environment our sunflowers will thrive in. The variables are: sand, compost, rich soil and gravel. We have made our own predictions. The results will be published soon!
We have been busy artists this week and have used watercolours with wax resist to create some beautiful pictures of woodlands.
Our topic this term has been all about Rio. We enjoyed our carnival day and took part in activities such as:
preparing party food, making samba movements and music, creating carnival masks and parading around the school grounds.
We have been reading different scales and using different units of measurement.
We have been reading fairy tales, looking at the features of this genre and are creating our own version of Rumplestiltskin.
Each week your child will be given a list of spellings to learn. We are focussing on spelling patterns including digraphs, split digraphs and trigraphs. Spellings will be handed out every Friday and tested the following Friday.
The spellings for this week are on the link below (your child will have received a paper copy too!)
Please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher if you have any questions.
In Maths this week we have been learning about 2D shapes and their properties. We have been sorting them according to different criteria and talking about their similarities and differences.
Visit the link below to help your child with their shape recognition!
This week in Mathematics we have been finding doubles.
1 + 1=2 Double 1 is 2.
2 + 2 = 4 Double 2 is 4.
3 + 3 = 6 Double 3 is 6.
4 + 4 = 8 Double 4 is 8.
5 + 5 = 10 Double 5 is 10.
Please help your child to learn these by heart as it will help with all aspects of Maths.

Read, Write, Inc
We use the Read, Write, Inc phonic programme to teach the children how to read sounds and words fluently. Please find below a link to the Read, Write, Inc web page. The creator of this scheme has put lots of useful resources on there for parents.
