We had a fantastic day completely out of our classroom. As you will see from our pictures we took part in such amazing and enjoyable activities.
We had such fun when we went to the woods. After a long walk from school to Pendeen woods, we spent time identifying different leaves, and we found out how to work out how old a tree was. The oldest one we found was 80 years old. Which was younger than the queen but a little bit older than Mrs Phillips.
We gathered twigs, leaves, moss and other woodland materials to make a Dray. This is what a squirrel uses as a nest.
After that we went on a mini beast hunt and incredibly found such a fabulous variety including spiders, woodlice, worms, a centipede and even a beautiful moth.
We had the most amazing street party to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen's 90th Birthday. It may have been raining but it didn't spoil the day.
We will remember our special day for many years to come.
Thank you parents/carers for all the lovely food you sent in.
The children have been working really hard to practise phonics this week. We have been reading real and alien words and have been looking for special friends in words. The children have been using Fred talk and Fred in their head to read. They enjoyed playing 'Obb and Bob' as a class. Below is the link to the game so that you can play it at home.
Sports day 2016
We had our sports day on possibly the hottest day we've ever had for this event. We all took part and had the most amazing time. We demonstrated our sporting abilities but mostly our team spirit. Well done to all the children for your enthusiasm.
Suffixes - er, est, ing and ed
This week we have been learning about suffixes. Suffixes are added to root words to change the meaning of the word. Here is a game that you can play to practise using suffixes.
Some of us were lucky enough to work on the new willow scuplture in the school grounds. We weaved our own piece of willow into the sculpture working as a team. It was cold and wet but it didn't spoil our enthusiasm and enjoyment of this activity.
We joined with Ladybird Class for our Assembly. We were able to show all the fabulous learning we have done.
Our Literacy demonstrated how we use Talk for Writing to help us innovate text.
We loved showing how we can Rap to enhance our numeracy learning. We hope you enjoy looking at our lovely pictures.
We have created some amazing art work for our beautiful display outside the year one classes. We are sure you'll enjoy looking at it.
Yesterday we went on a wild flower hunt around the school. We found daisies, dandelions and buttercups. We wrote fact files about them.
In Maths we have been learning about whole turns, quarter turns half turns, three-quarter turns and turns that are both clockwise and anticlockwise. Here is a link to the 'turning man' which the children can use to revise their learning.
We had a great time enjoying activities such as food tasting, designing a mask, playing samba music and carnival dancing. You will see from the pictures below we had ball.
We all joined in a fantastic aerobic session for sports relief to help raise money. Thank you for your support and sponsorship money.
We were so lucky to have two visiting authors in school today. The children were treated to an amazing story telling session, of which they were able to interact in. Much fun was had by all, and demonstrated how much reading is an enhancement to all learning areas.
We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up in our favourite book characters.
Well done Robin Class for making such an amazing effort.
Every child will receive a token worth one pound to put towards a book. They can be used when we have our visiting authors too.
Some of the children in Robin Class took part in this years dance festival at Sir John Hunt.
They were a credit to the school, enjoying dancing with their own school. There were some amazing moves.
They also had the opportunity to dance with all the other schools who took part.
We have been learning about birds which are native to our country, and had the opportunity to use our very own hide.
We saw some seagulls, crows and a magpie.
We had a visit from a lady from the Ancient art of Falconry. She brought with her some amazing birds. There was a Little Owl called Henry. A Perigrine Falcon called Gem. A Harris Hawk by the name of Spirit and a Barn Owl called Rocky. We also got to see a Kestrel called Jester. It was so interesting to see them all up close and we were even able to touch some of them.
We had a really fun space themed day. As you can see Robin Class came to school in some amazing outfits.
In fact they were all ( Out of this world).
Our topic this term has been to learn about space. This has been especially exciting for the children, since our own British astronaut Tim Peake joined the Space station. We have watched the launch and have seen the live Cosmic Classroom.
We have had some magnificent space themed models made by the children. We hope you enjoy looking at them.
Enjoy some amazing pictures of the session the children watched of the 'Cosmic Classroom'.
Thank you to all the children who came back to school for our star gazing night. Unfortunately due to inclement weather, we didn't see any stars in the night sky. We did however have a fantastic time, taking part in various activities.
We had a space story by torchlight, a planet hunt, jaffa moon eating, and hot chocolate. We even did some Jedi night training.
Thank you so much for supporting this event, the children had an amazing session. We hope you enjoyed playing the games with your child.
This year our play's theme, is all about a school caretaker who needs to decorate the school's christmas tree.
He is a very busy man, so who will help? When you see our production you will find out.
We're sure you will agree Robin Class make some BaaaBrilliant sheep.
To help with our Mathematics learning we need to keep practising our doubles.
1 + 1 = 2 Double 1 is 2.
2 + 2 = 4 Double 2 is 4.
3 + 3 = 6 Double 3 is 6.
4 + 4 = 8 Double 4 is 8.
5 + 5 = 10 Double 5 is 10.
Please help your child to learn these by heart as it will help with all aspects of Maths.
Thank you for all of your donations. The children looked fantastic in their hero costumes. Some of the teachers dressed up too.
Each week your child will be given a list of spellings to learn. We are focussing on spelling patterns including digraphs, split digraphs and trigraphs. Spellings will be handed out every Friday and tested the following Friday.
The spellings for this week are on the link below (your child will have received a paper copy too!)
Please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher if you have any questions.
In Maths this week we have been learning about 2D shapes and their properties. We have been sorting them according to different criteria and talking about their similarities and differences.
Visit the link below to help your child with their shape recognition!
Here are some pictures of our assembly, we hope you enjoyed it and agree that all the children were fantastic.
