Welcome to Sycamore's class page. Sycamore is a year 6 class with 24 children. Miss Warren is our teacher and our teaching assistant is the lovely Mrs Young.
Here we will be sharing with you the wonderful work we do in school. So have a look at our photos and work to see what we have been up to. We hope you enjoy reading about our work and our class on this page.
Curious about Catastrophes
Science Week followed the theme 'Curious about Catastrophes'. Year 6 linked this to our current topic of WW1 and created an explosion for ourselves using hydrogen peroxide, fairy liquid, yeast, warm water and food colouring. Have a look at our pictures to see our explosions!
Year 6 have currently been enjoying taking Maths learning outside of the classroom. We call these days 'Wellie Wednesdays'. The children get on their wellies or outdoor shoes and roam the school solving Maths problems. Our problem this time was: 'The Ministry of Benches states that 45% of children should be able to sit down at play times if they want to'. We discovered that we do not have enough benches for this to happen so the children then had to calculate how many more benches we needed and what this would cost. Come into our classroom and have a look at our 'Outdoor Learning Scrapbook'.
Ratio and Proportion
In our Maths lessons we have been learning about ratio and proportion. We have looked at different recipes and how to scale measurements up and down depending on how many people it needs to serve. We applied our learning to help make us make some smoothies for the class! They were delicious!
