Welcome to Skylark Class
Your teachers are called Miss Gooding and Miss Hemelik and the teaching assistant working in your class is Mrs Curtis.
For the Autumn Term, we have a very exciting topic and all our learning will be linked to this, where appropriate. Our topic is Dartmoor and we will be exploring the importance of this special place to the local residents. Our learning will include:
- Science – the children will be studying ‘Living Things, Habitats and Classification’. We will be using this to look at our local habitat of Dartmoor to investigate and research the animals and plants. Scientific knowledge and understanding will be used to ask questions to find answers.
- We will plan and design for a virtual tour of the Dartmoor Environment using the Kodu planning and our ICT and computing skills.
- We will focus on developing our writing skills and will explore fiction and writing myths and legends using a variety of stimulus.
- In Music we will explore Folk music that would have been experienced on the moors. We will also find out about the history of folk music on Dartmoor and listen to a more modern artist.
Our PE sessions are on a Monday and a Wednesday. Children will need to make sure that their PE kit is in school everyday so that they are able to participate.
All learning whilst you are at home can be found on the eschools login on the Beechwood website. Please message us and let us know what you have been learning. The link below may also be useful.
Please also remember that your child can develop their skills by TTRS at home, Reading Eggs and Spellodrome on the internet. We have found that the sites are fun and an excellent vehicle for learning! Children should also be learning their times tables as all children are expected to know each multiplication table (up to 12 x 12) by heart by the time they reach secondary school.
We love earning Dojo Points in class. We can earn points for demonstrating our whole school learningbehaviours: creativity, curiosity, independence, reflection, resilience and teamwork. Every time we are 'caught' using these learning behaviours we receive a Dojo point from the teachers. We can collect Dojo points to earn rewards. Our Class Dojo is linked to our parents and we can share our learning directly with them. Parents can also contact us via the messaging service on Class Dojo.
This year, Pride Class are focusing on our reading skills. When the children have completed a book, they can log on to their REN learning area using the link below and complete a quiz about it. The children can also log on a home and complete quizzes. They all have their own user name and passwords. They can show you all of the books they have read and all of the quizzes they have passed
